Clermont County Retired Teachers Association

ARTICLE I:  Name and Purpose

Section 1.  The name of this organization shall be the Clermont Chapter of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Section 2.  The purpose of the Chapter shall be: (a) to aid in the advancement of public schools; (b) to foster good fellowship among the retired public school teachers; (c) to help promote the interests and welfare of the retired public school teachers throughout the state of Ohio.

ARTICLE II: Membership

            Section 1.  All teachers drawing retirement allowances from the State Teachers’ Retirement System of Ohio, or other State Teachers’ Retirement Systems are eligible for membership.

            Section 2.  Others who are especially interested in the problems of the Chapter and of public education may be admitted as associate members with the payment of local and state dues.

            Section 3.  All eligible persons shall be admitted into the chapter upon application and the payment of local and state dues.

ARTICLE III:  Officers and Directors

            Section 1.  The officers of the Chapter shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

            Section 2.  The officers of the Chapter shall constitute an Executive Committee to come together on the call of the President for the consideration of special matters in the interim between regular meetings of the Chapter and of the Board of Directors.

            Section 3.  The elected officers, the ex-officio members, and the chairman of the committees shall constitute the Board of Directors.

            Section 4.  The duties of the Officers and Directors shall be such as usually pertain to their respective offices.  (Robert’s Rules of Order)

            Section 5.  The Past President of this Chapter shall be an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors with the same rights as other members.

            Section 6.  The Board of Directors shall recommend the policies of the Chapter for the approval of the members.


ARTICLE IV:  Elections

            Section 1.  The officers of this Chapter shall be elected at the September meeting in odd years for a term of two years.  They shall take office for a term of two years.  They shall take office in January following election.

            Section 2.  The President with the approval of a majority of the Board of Directors shall appoint a Nominating Committee of FIVE MEMBERS of the Chapter, only one of who shall be a member of the Board.  Tis committee shall nominate the candidates for the elected officers of the Chapter. This report shall be filed with the Secretary by the first of September previous to election.  Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the September meeting of the Chapter.

            Section 3.  The election shall be by ballot unless otherwise directed.

            Section 4.  The newly elected President shall appoint committee chairmen as needed.

            Section 5.  Vacancies occurring on the Board of Directors shall be filled by presidential appointment for the unexpired period of such vacancies.

            Section 6.  With the exception of the Treasurer and Secretary, no officer shall succeed himself.  The current Board is to approve the selection of the Treasurer as proposed by the Nominating Committee.

ARTICLE V:  Meetings

            Section 1.  There shall be four meetings of the Chapter, one in March, June, September, and November.  All meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month.

            Section 2.  Special meetings of the Chapter may be called by the Board of Directors whenever, in the judgment of the majority of the members, such a meeting seems necessary.

            Section 3.  Meetings of the Board of Directors may be called by the President, or on written request of at least three of its members.


            Section 1.  The Board of Directors with the approval of the Chapter may fix the dues from time to time to meet the needs of the Chapter.  The minimum dues, however, shall be ONE DOLLAR ($1.00) per year.

            Section 2.  Dues shall be payable on or before the November meeting.  Continued membership in the state organization is mandatory.  Membership shall lapse upon the non-payment of dues for a year.


ARTICLE VII:    Amendments

            Section 1.  The BY-LAWS of this Chapter may be amended at any general meeting by a two-third vote of the members present, provided notice of the proposed amendments has been given to the members at least ten days prior to the meeting.

ARTICLE VIII:  Rules of Order

            Section 1.  Except in matters provided for in the BY-LAWS, the Chapter shall be governed by Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised.
